headlines tout the virtues or the
perils of one vitamin or another.
One day you may hear vitamin E
helps lower risk of heart disease,
and the next you learn that high
doses may shorten your life
span. One study reports vitamin
C may reduce complications,
yet the next says too much
vitamin C may not be good for
the heart. How do you know what
to believe? If you’re wondering
whether you’re getting enough
vitamins, here’s the latest.
Research is ongoing as to
vitamins’ effects on diabetes.
The most common vitamins
being studied are those involved
in glucose metabolism, such as
niacin, and antioxidants, such as
vitamins C and E.
We all need vitamins for a
variety of biological processes,
such as converting food to
energy and resisting infection.
