(have it your way)
When you’re making a
sandwich, choose fresh,
just-ripe ingredients.
Here are some other
healthful deli pointers:
1. Rinse greens in cold
water, then drain and
dry so they won’t make
your sandwich soggy.
2. Slice tomatoes just
before using.
3. Use less mayonnaise
and more mustard.
4. Toss vegetables in
vinegar and a little oil
to bring out the flavor.
5. Pick low-carb or
multigrain breads that
are high in fiber.
6. Look for fresh lean or
fat-free meats. Cured
meats, such as ham,
corned beef, and
sausage, can be high
in sodium and fat.
7. Add a little cheese
with a lot of flavor,
such as blue, feta, or
Parmesan. Or choose
low-fat cheeses.
8. Slice cheese and meat
very thinly so less
feels like more.
9. On the side, opt for a
green salad.
10. Instead of high-sodium pickles and
olives, pick fresh
relishes, such as
carrots or celery.
