I am a type 2 diabetic trying
to lose weight. First, I would
like to say I tried the meal in
a bowl (Beefy Pasta Salad,
our cover recipe for the
Summer 2010 issue) and it
was wonderful. My question:
Should I have a salad every
night with my dinner?

Salads made with greens and other nonstarchy veggies, such as tomatoes,
mushrooms, onions, and sweet peppers, are a great way to ;ll up on ;ber,
vitamins, and minerals without adding too many calories to a meal. People
who use simple carb counting to control diabetes usually don’t need to count a
nonstarchy salad—but do count any extra calories from salad dressing, cheese,
croutons, and other add-ons.

I am so glad that I found your website.
Recently, routine blood work was done and I was shocked to ;nd
out that I was pre-diabetic. My doctor told me to start following
a diabetic diet. I would like to see a section about pre-diabetes on
DiabeticLivingOnline.com. Most of the educational information
is geared to type 1 and type 2 diabetes. That’s good, but I’d like
to encourage and educate the pre-diabetics to help them get
their blood glucose levels on target. I have learned that there are
millions of people like me.
