Prescription Humalog is for people with
diabetes to control high blood sugar and
should be used with a longer-acting insulin,
except when used with sulfonylureas in
people with type 2 diabetes.
Important safety information
Do not use Humalog during low blood sugar
episodes. Low blood sugar, which can
occur suddenly, is the most common side
effect associated with all insulins. If severe,
it can cause seizures and be life threatening.
Check your blood sugar as told by your
healthcare provider. Humalog starts working
faster than other insulins that contain regular
human insulin. Take Humalog within 15
minutes before eating or right after eating a
meal. Other side effects may include weight
gain, low blood potassium, and injection site
and allergic reactions. Whole-body reactions
are less common but may be life threatening.
Starting or changing insulin therapy
should be done cautiously and only under
medical supervision.
