Food-saving storage helpers
Keep your food bargains fresh by storing them in containers with airtight seals. You don’t need a canister for
everything, though. “Repackage an item if the food will lose its freshness in the original container or if the food
package is too ;imsy or bulky,” says professional organizer Lea Schneider, owner of Organize Right Now in
Pensacola, Florida. Save the nutrition information (see tip 4, page 72). Here are some of our favorite canisters:
1. OXO Good Grips makes POP
containers for the pantry—just
press the top button to seal the
container; press again to open.
Also try OXO’s leakproof TOP
containers for the refrigerator and
freezer. $3.99–$18.99; oxo.com
2. KLIP IT containers have side
clips that provide a tight seal and
are easy to open. Choose from
containers for baking ingredients,
as well as for the fridge and freezer.
$3–$12; sistemaplastics.com
3. Rubbermaid Modular Canisters
have stackable designs to save
space. Handy measurement
markings on the containers tell you
how much they hold. $2.99–$5.99;
